How to Get Your Loved Ones the Mental Health Help They Need

Living with someone who needs mental health help but can't or won't get it can be very frustrating, but also carries a burden of some responsibility if you believe that they are a danger to themselves or a danger to others. People who are actively ill are usually not the best people to decide to seek treatment; these people will actually deny any need for help if pressed. As a responsible family member, it then falls to you to try to get the help needed and the way to do this may be complicated and unpleasant. This article will explain what your options are if you are in this delicate and unpleasant predicament.

You have a family member that is talking about suicide; you have a friend that is telling you they want to hurt people; you have a loved one that has stopped eating, drinking, bathing and that appears to be talking to people you can't see. All of these situations require some type of intervention. By law, if you are aware of these circumstances, you also have a responsibility to try to get help for these people.

Mental Health

No one wants to be the one to send a loved one into a mental hospital for treatment, especially when it will be against their will. However, if the only other option is to do nothing and allow an event to occur, you may be liable under the law because you had prior knowledge and did nothing. We all read about these events in the papers and wonder why "no one did anything before it got out of hand?"

What to do in this situation--

First, you need to talk very directly with the person about your observations and concerns. Listen carefully to the responses without being judgmental or offering solutions. After you hear them out, make your decision about how serious the conditions are and whether you need to go farther in your search to get help.

Most cases can be resolved at this step. Knowing that you are aware of the struggle they are having; knowing that you are willing to listen with an open mind; knowing that you are there to help if they need it--all goes a long way to resolving the frustration and dismay they may feel. They may feel such relief that you noticed and took time to ask them about it that the problem will simply resolve itself by talking it out with you.

If the problem still exists and you feel help is required--

For truly suicidal people, talking about it will not resolve the problem. You will not "make them act" by discussing the issue, but sometimes the underlying problem requires more than an offer of a shoulder to lean on and an ear to talk to. Someone who is seriously suicidal needs immediate hospitalization for their safety and the safety of others.

Homicidal thoughts occur. The actual questions to get answers to would be if there is a plan in place to commit the act and if there is access to the necessary tools to complete it. We all say that we want "to kill" someone at some time or another, but not everyone who says it will actually spend time thinking up a plan and gathering up the tools to do so. This person is an imminent danger to others and requires immediate hospitalization to prevent harm to their target.

For those who display increasing vegetative symptoms--sleeping all the time, not eating, not bathing, not interacting with others, not going to work, not caring for their children--you need to assess if the problem is depression, psychosis, or simply a person who has become overwhelmed by life and its challenges. For depression and psychosis you may need to seek professional help with hospitalization. For someone who is overwhelmed, you may need to search the community for support and help them to access these avenues. They may need to see a counselor or therapist to learn about programs designed to help them deal with daily issues.

If hospitalization will be required--

There are three ways to access hospital services:

1. The person will agree to get help and will go voluntarily to the hospital for treatment. This is always the best choice, but unfortunately not always the one used.

2. The person can go the the nearest Emergency Room to be assessed by a clinician and have them determine if hospitalization is needed. The person may be willing to do this, as most people don't associate ER visits with being admitted to a psychiatric facility. This way works well, but as we all know, the ER waiting room is usually full and you will be there quite a long time.

3. You can take the person directly to a psychiatric hospital for an immediate assessment by their clinicians. This choice, though the most direct and efficient, usually will be met with strong resistance. No one really wants to be admitted to a mental hospital, even when you know you need to be.

What to do if you cannot get them to go--

Every city, county, and state has someone designated as a Mental Health Officer that can complete paperwork to have someone admitted against their will. These officers will transport the person to the hospital or will arrange for the police to do so. This option is very traumatic for the person, but as a last resort, it will get them the help they need. In this situation, there needs to be an imminent danger to self or others.

To conclude, there are various ways for you to help a loved one get the psychiatric help they may need. From simply connecting with them in a non-judgemental way and offering help to the most dramatic solution of involuntary commitment by a Mental Health Officer, you can get help when needed. The problem is that the process is long and cumbersome; there are laws that must be followed to protect someone from false imprisonment in an institution. But the bottom line will always be the safety of the person and the safety of others around that person.

Living with a mentally ill person can be a challenge. Most mentally ill people are capable of living productive and happy lives out in the community, even actively helping others in their communities. It is only during infrequent crises that help may need to be sought. We all are under extreme pressure and stress daily and we all deal with these things differently. Those with a mental illness are simply more susceptible to these stresses and have fewer coping skills to help them deal with them. There are going to be times when help will need to be given even if it is not wanted.

Terror Barrier! (MHM-Mental Health Matters)

The Blasted terror barrier, what exactly is it? Have you ever seen a dear stuck in his spot in your head lights? Just frozen they are unable to move? He is struck with terror and can not move from his spot even if it means he gets squished and dies. This is what sort of happens to us, we get caught in the bright lights of life, which is our past and how we've always acted! We can now break through the terror barrier and move from out of those lights and then we won't get squished by the past and we then move on past the terror barrier, unto a new reality which is free from terror!

You may be asking your self how do I break all these bad habits and be frozen in the past or the way we have been taught to act in certain situations. First we have to find a way that works for us, to get past the terror barrier. It was put to me in these certain terms, now don't laugh, it sounds so simple that I even said what the hell, this can't be it! IF YOU DO THE THING, YOU WILL HAVE THE POWER, IF YOU DON'T DO THE THING, YOU WON'T HAVE THE POWER!

Mental Health

Can you it really be that simple? Yes and no is my answer. For thirty six years of my life I fought the terror barrier and have just recently found out how to break this nasty little wall of terror. The good thing for you is, you will now have a blue print to overcome this terror barrier, which I struggled with for my whole life!

What is our first step in overcoming the terror barrier? Self relation that a terror barrier does truly exist and that you are affected by it every day it literally takes control over you. Now what do you think chances of beating are? If you can't do this step you sure as hell aren't going to go to the next step, so if you disagree that there is no terror barrier, then please stop reading this book right now, and send it back for a full refund.

Now what is our next step in overcoming the terror barrier? Recognition that you are helpless over the terror barrier right now, but there is hope and recognize that hope is always there and will always be there and you can tap into the universal power that is one with God. Now once you get a handle on this step you will find out that you can use this and apply it to any situation in your life.

Relentlessness' pursuit of your goal or dreams, if you get knocked down, get back up and try it again the only way you are considered a failure is if you stop trying. If you but will continue to try then each failure or not getting the right results you want, moves you one step closer to your dreams.

Just because you don't make on your first try don't sweat it, you can make it on the second or third time and this is a given. Robert Kiosks says you will fail nine times out of ten, but it's the tenth one that makes you a millionaire. So being rent less in your pursuit of any dream or goal, will get you that much closer, each time you fail or you do not get the desired
Results you are that much closer to your desired results. So being a failure is not so bad because the more you fail the closer you are getting to what you want. So be rent less in your pursuit of your dreams and goals and know that next failure gets you one step closer to your desired results.

Now we have covered the three a r's, Recognition, Realization, Relentlessness. What is next? Well it sort of goes like this. Zig Ziglar says that failure is an event not a person.

So who cares if you fail that is not you, which is just some event that got you one step closer to your desired results. So please know when you are failing that is not who you are, it is just something that happened to you, it is an event. Your time will come and before you know it you will overcome that terror barrier!

Now do you see that with these three action steps you get closer and closer to overcoming your terror barrier? Well you should because every step gets you closer to your goals. Now you will sometimes erect wall that keep you in the place where you are at. I bet you are saying no way why would I do that? Let me explain.

Every time you think you are getting to where it is you want to go. POW everything falls apart and you have to stay where you are at. Why is this so, the brain knows that it is much easier to stay where you are then to do all the work required to get to the next level.

We erect barriers that weren't normally going to be there. We self sabotage your plans and we don't even know this. Now once we understand that this is what we are doing, we can find a way to stop it. How? By the three R's so follow the steps we have just outlined and you will be well on your way to beat the thing we call the nasty terror barrier and this will stretch your reality and then you will see a whole new world open up to you!

Please know that you can freely distribute this article to antone you want, who this may help and even to some you don't, it's that good. Just leave the footer left intact and give the author the proper credit:)

Gymnastics is Best For Physical and Mental Health

Gymnastics is like exercising to make your body healthy and fit. In schools the physical education is taught as a subject and it is a good thing that students not only have their mental education in schools but also the physical education. Because physical education can be good for many things like it is good for health and brain, it helps a person to face the realities of the life and also it is good for grooming the personality.

Here are some simple tips and you can also do gymnastics at your home by applying them. For practicing the gymnastic it is better that you do it in grassy area and in fresh place. Otherwise, if you prefer indoor practice, there needs to be enough space in your room that you can move easily here and there.

Mental Health

One of the gymnastic that is easy to do at home is the head stand. In head stand you have to stand on head. In the beginning you would feel uncomfortable while doing it. But you only have to place a pillow on your exercise mat against the wall and keep your head on it and pull up your legs straight against the wall. This gymnastic is good for brain and the circulation of the blood becomes normal while doing it. And with some practice if you feel comfortable with it then just try to move away from the wall.

The other gymnastic you can do is the cartwheel. Cartwheel is difficult to do. But with lot more practice you can do it easily. It depends on the hand which you use in your normal life like some are left-handed and some are right-handed. Just stand with your legs and shoulders wide apart then put your hands above the head. Try to lean slightly towards your left side then try to use that energy to propel your right hand to the ground. When your head is near the ground, first bring your left leg in a swirl position and then the right leg into a handstand position.

Mental Health and Your Dreams

The scientific method of dream interpretation discovered by Carl Jung is complicated and obscure. Jung's explanations are not accurate and he gives many examples of literary works and his personal indifferent opinion about what he examines in the human psyche, which distorts the meaning of his own discovery.

Of course, he couldn't do more. He is a big hero and his discoveries were pioneering in the field of psychotherapy. His work was tremendous!

Mental Health

He discovered the following:

1- Dream symbols appear in everyone's dreams. Also, symbols appear in many religious and artistic manifestations in the entire history of humanity and in all the civilizations, symbols that he designated as archetypes.

2- The dreamer who starts analyzing his or her dreams follows a certain path. The images one sees and the adventures one will have are known: everyone passes through the same experiences when examining the content of one's psychical sphere through dream interpretation until each one reaches a certain place that marks the end of the trip.

3- When an author's writing is inspired by the unconscious that produces the dreams, we can interpret literary works just as we interpret dreams and be informed about many ignored aspects of reality.

I found Jung's work ready and I precisely followed his steps, until I was near the end of the journey within my psyche through dream interpretation, but I had to continue, without accepting ignorance as he did.

The unconscious encouraged me to continue through my dream in which everyone reached the other side of a river after stepping on my feet and not directly on the rocks on which I stood. The rocks were in the middle of the river and they could be used as a bridge to the other side, but nobody would go to the other side by stepping directly on the rocks, but only over my feet. I was in the middle of the river, giving my hand to everyone who stepped on my feet to reach the other side that was near the place where I stood.

The interpretation of this dream revealed that I would help everyone have the courage to face the other side of the river, where their anti-conscience exists. This conscience is a part of everyone, although they ignore its content. The rocks represent the indubitable truth. My feet represent my beliefs, my convictions and my moral values. So, everyone would face the anti-conscience based on my beliefs and not directly based on the truth.

The truth is too ugly and depressing. The human being is very far from mental health: humans are in fact monsters, since the anti-conscience is inherent in the biggest part of our psychic spheres.

I delayed presenting my work to the public by 19 years because I was working on the solution all this while. The unconscious is a doctor that can cure everyone through dreams; however, I had to discover the meaning of many dream symbols and understand how to dominate the monster before I could teach you and cure your problems. I also had to cure many people with several different problems in difficult life conditions, by urgently interpreting their dreams because they could not waste any time, so that I could give you practical solutions and be totally different than my mentor in my explanations.

My work is very clear, well defined, simple and precise because I continued Jung's research and I saw what exists in the depths of the psyche.

This way, you can avoid all the dangers that await you in your life since the anti-conscience is constantly trying to destroy your human side through craziness. You can develop your conscience until you become a genius, and stay far from depression, craziness and suicidal thoughts.

You'll preserve your mental health forever, help others because you will be wise and sensitive, everything in your life will be favorable to you and you happiness will be genuine!

Mental Health Nursing - Could You Cope?

A CDC report states that about 996,000 individuals suffer from some form of mental illness in the United States of America, in a given year. The report also mentions that a whopping 25% of adults in the country suffer from a mental disorder (That is about 1 in 4 adults). Mental health nursing helps the individual fix the mental disorder and in a way contribute to the betterment of the society and the country's economy.

The task is tough, because these nurses don't see any visible symptoms of the illness. They have to understand the behavior of the individual and try to find out the possible reason. They can definitely interact with the families of the patient to find out the reasons responsible for the sudden change in behavior of the individual.

Mental Health

The other problem mental health nurses face is that they do not normally know the severity of the illness. This makes it very tough for the nurse to subscribe to a set treatment process. Typically, a person with severe mental illness symptoms would need a more rigorous course of treatment than individuals with less severe symptoms.

Mental health nursing indeed seems to be the best cure for people with diagnosable mental illnesses, but the question is how many of them actually receive this treatment? In a survey done on 3,000 participants by National Institute of Medical Health (NIMH), it was found that only 50% of children in the age group of 8-15 received treatment for their mental illnesses. The symptoms of these illnesses grew with the children as they progressed with age, only for them to find out about the disorder when they symptoms appeared more severe.

Statistically, an increase in cases of drug and alcohol addiction with young individuals and adolescents has thrown a spike on the mental illness graph. Youngsters addicted to these substances face severe withdrawal symptoms when they are forced to get out of these habits, resulting in them suffering from some kind of mental illness.

It is quite clear that mental health nursing can only benefit the society. By fixing mental illnesses in a person, the symptoms of which are not easily visible to the naked eye, these nurses overcome a steep challenge to benefit the country and the society in a big way.

A mental health nurse needs to a caring individual who treats the patients with fairness and respect.

Mental Abuse - The 7 Most Important Things To Know

1. Sticks and stones won't break my bones" - and words won't leave any measurable physical damage, but they will cause progressive, long-term harm. Never underestimate the power of words: words are used to brainwash.

Being told you are "stupid", "ugly", "lazy" or "worthless" is never acceptable. The first times you hear it, it will hurt, naturally. In time you "may get used to" hearing it from a partner. That's when you start to internalise and believe it. When that happens you are doing the other person's work of putting you down for them. This is why your feelings of self-worth suffer increasingly over time.

Mental Health

The good news is that just as words have been used to bring you down, you can learn to harness the power of words to build you up and restore your confidence and belief in yourself.

2. You are always told that it's your fault. Somehow, whatever happens, however it starts, the ultimate blame is always yours. Notice that we are talking ultimate blame here. The blaming partner will always tell you that their behaviour was caused by what you said or did. In fact, their argument runs along the lines that you can't possibly blame them for anything, because if you hadn't said what you said, or done what you did it would never have happened.

3. You're more inclined to believe your partner than you are to believe yourself. Have you ever reeled with a sense of hurt and injustice, or seethed with anger at the way you've been treated? Have you found yourself asking: "Is it reasonable to feel like this?" "Am I misinterpreting things?" "Have I got it wrong?"

If this is you, what it means is that you have become so brainwashed you've stopped trusting in your own judgement. Your mind keeps throwing up the observations and questions because, deep down, you know that what is happening is utterly wrong. But right now you can't feel the strength of your own convictions.

4. You need your partner to acknowledge your feelings. Have you ever felt desperate to make your partner hear what you are saying and apologise for the hurtful things they've said? Have you ever felt that only they can heal the pain they've caused?

Does your need for them to validate your feelings keep you hooked into the relationship?

When a partner constantly denies or refuses to listen to your feelings, that is, unquestionably, mental abuse.

5. Your partner blows hot and cold. He can be very loving but is often highly critical of you. He may tell you how much he loves you, yet he is short on care or consideration towards you. In fact, some of the time, maybe even a lot of the time, he treats you as if you were someone he truly dislikes.

You do everything you can to make him happy, but it's never good enough. You're more like the pet dog in the relationship than you are the equal partner. Your constant efforts to get his attention and please him meet with limited success. Sometimes he'll be charmed, often he's dismissive.

If you find yourself puzzling about how your partner can treat you that way, it is because you are trying to live in a love-based relationship, when in reality you are living in a control-based relationship. The mental abuser struggles with his own feelings of worthlessness and uses his relationship to create a feeling of personal power, at his partner's expense.

6. You feel as if you are constantly walking on eggshells. There is a real degree of fear in the relationship. You have come to dread his outbursts, the hurtful things that he will find to say to you. (Maybe the same anxiety and need to please spill over into your other relationships also.)

Fear is not part of a loving relationship, but it is a vital part of a mentally abusive relationship. It enables the abuser to maintain control over you.

7. You can heal. Mentally abusive relationships cause enormous emotional damage to the loving partner who tries, against all odds, to hold the relationship together and, ultimately, can't do it, because her partner is working against her.

Whether you are currently in a mentally abusive relationship, have left one recently, or years later are still struggling with the anxieties and low self-worth and lack of confidence caused by mental abuse, it is never too late to heal.

But you do need to work with a person or a programme specifically geared to mental abuse recovery.

Women who have suffered mental abuse expect radical change of themselves, and they expect it right away. This is why they often struggle and, not uncommonly, take up with another abusive partner.

Mental abuse recovery is a gradual process. Low self-worth and limiting beliefs about what kind of future the abuse sufferer can ever hope for are the blocks that can stop women from moving on. But they are blocks that you can clear very effectively. Just as language was once used to harm you, you can now learn how language can heal you. You can overcome past mental abuse and keep yourself safe from it in the future. You can also learn to feel strong, believe in yourself and create the life and the relationships you truly want.

"The Woman You Want To Be" is a unique workbook designed to accompany you on a year long journey into emotional health and happiness.

Herbs for Mental Health and Energy: A Look at What Herbs Support Mood, Focus and Alertness

In some of the previous articles I've written we've looked at herbs for memory and function, but today I'd like to look at herbs for mental health and energy. Memory issues are not the only problems people deal with when it comes to the brain. Many suffer from mood swings, depression and a lack of mental energy. Herbal remedies can help with that too.

For most of us, one of the primary factors that affects our mental health and well being is stress. We all deal with stress in our lives to varying degrees. It seems that the level of stress in life is increasing rather than decreasing. News reports and scientists have done numerous stories and studies showing that people are spending longer hours at work, taking fewer vacations and in general doing more to increase rather than reduce stress. This has a significant impact on how our minds function. Mood deteriorates, energy levels decrease and mental focus becomes more difficult.

Mental Health

To combat this it would be most beneficial to cut back on work hours, take more time off, relax, exercise, etc. However, the reality is that this seems to be difficult for our generation to follow through with. As a result, people are looking for ways to help their bodies cope with stress without the negative side effects of prescription drugs and other methods. One of those tools is herbs for mental health like Siberian Ginseng.

Ginseng has undergone intense studies by scientists in recent years. This herb has been used for generations in China and other parts of asia as a herb for mental health. It has become popular in Europe and the US and research is supporting its use as a beneficial mind herb.

Ginseng is what scientists call an adaptogen. It is a substance that interacts with the brain and other body systems in different ways to help adjust to stress. It levels the systems out so stress has less of an effect on both mind and body thereby helping maintain mental health and stability.

Along with stress comes mood or anxiety issues. Stress and anxiety often seem to come hand in hand. To fight anxiety and help calm mood herbal experts suggest Passion Flower and Bacopin as two herbs for mental health that have a positive effect in reducing anxiety and nervousness and calming mood. Again, research is so far supporting these herbs as helpful to the brain.

After dealing with stress and anxiety, people are often left with fatigue and a lack of mental energy. To that end there are two herbs for mental energy that are often recommended. They are Ginkgo Biloba and Gotu Kola.

Ginkgo is often used to help increase memory and cognitive function. It does so by increasing blood flow to the brain. Another result of this process is that it helps increase focus and alertness by supplying the brain with more oxygen and nutrients due to the rise in blood traffic. That makes Ginkgo one of the more important of the herbs for mental energy.

Gotu Kola is also an useful in providing energy and focus to the brain. It also has some effect on the blood flow in the body. It helps with fatigue by reducing insomnia and boosting mental functions. It also has the added benefit of helping to reduce anxiety and level mood, making it not only one of the herbs for mental energy, but one for overall mental health.

While the problems of stress, anxiety and fatigue may not something that we can just wave our hands and make go away, there are things we can do to protect ourselves from their effects. Though exercise and rest are important to our bodies being able to cope, it may not be enough or even possible to get what we need in today's world. Using herbs for mental health and energy may be an increasingly important tool in our fight to overcome the negative effects of the heavy demands we face each day.

The Mental Benefits of Exercise and Its Influence on Mood, Function and Aging

The benefit of exercise on the body has been talked about for years, but what needs more discussion is the mental benefits of exercise. The brain needs exercise in order to combat aging, function properly and keep mood positive. Here's why.

The effect of exercise on the brain is profound. Several studies of exercise and mental health have observed large differences in memory ability, critical thinking skills, balanced mood and increased learning potential in the subjects who were on a physical exercise routine compared with the subject of the studies that were not. The difference was not minor. What was interesting is that the gap was even wider for studies done on people over 60. Those who did not exercise had a significant drop in mental health and brain function as opposed to those who maintained an active lifestyle.

Mental Health

The mental benefits of exercise begin with increased blood flow to the brain. The brain requires large amounts of oxygen and glucose to fuel the organ and maintain proper function. Decreases in blood flow either due to a sedentary lifestyle or old age is a major factor in mental decline.

Exercise and mental health are also connected by the effect exercise has on neurotransmitters. Studies done measuring the effect of exercise on neurotransmitters revealed that increased activity aided the body in producing higher levels of various brain chemicals necessary for function, mood improvement and memory. Exercise increases endorphins, which affect mood and decrease pain as well as increases aceytlcholine, which supports memory and mental processing in addition to voluntary muscle movement.

Exercise and mental health experts also noticed that exercise levels also impacted the number of pathways through the body for acetylcholine. This directly effects the ability of the chemical to work within the body.

One of the more interesting of the mental benefits of exercise is how it combats aging. It seems that exercise has a positive effect on nerve cell health and in many ways is directly linked with how long those cells live. Exercise maintains healthy cells and also helps enhance the activity of antioxidants which protect cells from free radical damage, one of the leading causes of cell damage related to the aging process.

Exercise also helps the body reduce the risk of stroke and clotting which can lead to deep vein thrombosis and death. This is important for not only our lives but for reducing the risk of damage to the brain that can result for stroke or clotting. This becomes increasingly important as we age and the circulatory system become more fragile.

One encouraging note in all this is that researchers found that even if a person has been inactive for much of their lives they can still receive the mental benefits of exercise whenever they start. It is important to start as early as you can, but any age will see improvement when they begin to increase exercise. The choice you make in this area can determine the quality of your mental health and how well you can function in later life. Whatever your age, get active.

Schizophrenia - physical, serious mental breakdown

Schizophrenia disease remains to be a concern. To say that someone is "schizophrenic", is usually characterized with a seriously crazy. Well, this is madness just a result of a physical abnormality in the body or brain. Yes, that schizophrenia is a physical illness, but the consequences are mental. It leads to a psychological breakdown that appear as "crazy" to other people. The nature of this disease remains too vague, and that medical science has yet to find out moreon it. The same with the causes of schizophrenia are not fully known. Studies have cited that the disease is genetic in nature.

And 'because of bad genes, they say, and it works in families. This is what is often said to mental illness. Some people tend to, it's in their genes, as mentioned. It triggers will follow later. Would increase their susceptibility to the disease until they develop it. They would then mentally ill. The condition ofmentally ill will be further exacerbated by the stigma of their disease. They are seen as "crazy." People will pretend to shame and resentment. Even disgust. These people are easy because their illness is misunderstood, discriminated against. What is itself recognized by mental health problems that are just like any other disease.

Mental Health

And a large number of patients were treated and are able to live a functional life. In this way the causes of schizophrenia are generallyphysical brain processes and procedures. Not much was still not known about, he said. But what about treatment? The drugs have been developed to correct the chemical imbalance in the brain. First, it has given clozapine. The schizophrenia drug clozapine is as effective as newer medications. But the problem with him is that the drug has many side effects. Are indeed heavy. Then there are also new drugs for the disease, such as risperidone andOlanzapine.

Effective as clozapine, but with fewer side effects. There are also other types of treatment such as ECT or electroconvulsive therapy. These treatments are designed to manage the disease and symptom control. As for symptoms, hallucinations and delusions may be. One obvious symptom of a schizophrenic is their megalomania. You have to think of an increased perception of themselves that they have a "cut above the rest" are. How "special" that they, Think that others are trying to do this is very essential for a schizophrenic paranoia and grandeur. These symptoms are those that eliminate the disease to focus on treatment, or at least control.
